OUGD405 Research, Collect, Communicate: Product Rationale- Othello

Rationale-Theme OTHELLO by William Shakespeare

Why have you made this decision?
Original Idea: At the time of writing this rationale I had decided to do Product and Packaging.
My initial idea was to create a Hamper or information pack that was to inform the audience about Othello, the story and about William Shakespeare.

New concept: However as i carried on researching more I decided to create a ticket for the show that would come in a information pack, which then maybe would have turned my idea into Distribution.

Who is the audience and how do you think you will engage with them?
Original Idea: The audience will be anyone who who doesnt understand the shakespearean language, people who want to learn more about shakespeare. There isnt a maximum age, however it will be students who are maybe studying Othello for English Literature at school, uni or college. It will be engaging to try adn get people/studens to listen/read and understand.

New Concept: My audience will be to anyone who has booked tickets to go see Othello in theatre. It doesnt neccesarily have to be engaging because the play itself would have engaged them this is something they have recieved in the post with there ticket. It will however have information with it that would inform the customer about Othello, the plot but also seating plans and maybe some quotes. I would also like to find some statistics of the history of William shakespeare and dive into just exactly how many people have seen shakespearean plays or even Othello. Just some fun facts that might interest them.

What is the function of the product-is it supposed to inform/educate/document/entertain/instruct? What has informed this decision?
Original idea: Inform/ Educate/ Entertain. Think the initial idea of tryin to get people to understand Othello with better ease.

New Concept: My new idea would sort of be a way of instructing people but to also inform them of the play and some interesting information.

How will the audience interact with the product?
Original Idea: The audience would read and learn

New Concept: I hope to create something interesting that they would read but also keep as a memorobelia of there night at the theatre

Group Crit

During this crit we all went through eachothers ideas and informing them about what we plan to do. At the time of this Crit this is what i had decided to do:
Design a front and back cover, have an inside of the book which had already been published but tried to find a modern day version. Within the hamper i would put information with the book that would give the viewer and insight to the world of shakespeare with facts. Design tickets for the play so when they purchased the hamper they got tickets with it. Design a theatre poster, CD design of the Othello music and maybe have stickers. This would all be given if i had enough time.
Idea 2: Infographic of themes: Jealousy, Racism, Love, Abusive Relationships- All these could be made into advice leaflets, that come with help line numbers, anti-theme campaigns, and i could also create wrist bands that support the cause.

From the Crit these are things i need to do:
-Need more research
-Explore about info shakespearean teaching hampers
-Explore the internet for the modern day language of Othello
-Explore into info Graphics
-Define what im going to do.

OUGD401 How to ...Evaluation

How to...-Self Evaluation

What Role(s) did you take on in the Group?
-Took part in Researching the theme- Collected Magazines
-Helped to come up with the ideas i.e what we was going to do, layout idea and what we were having on each page
-The Middle double page spread was decided upon that i would design that.
-Wasnt really given a huge rold but i felt i made up for that when generating the ideas.

How well do you think ypu performed in the role(s)?
-I think i performed well and contributed as much as i could to the group effort. Keeping inconstant contact with my group throughout the week helped to create a consistant looking magazine. As the roles were all split into individual efforts. So each member had one page to design.

How well do you think you worked as a group?
I think as a group we worked well considering the circumstances, each knew eachothers strengths, however as we seperated to do out individual work it became an issue because it wasnt as grouped as it should have been, up until the end when we all discused wether anything needed changing or rectifying but this should have been done throughout.

What were the positives of working in a group?
-Positives able to give people roles to do. The constant speaking and interaction with eachother even though it was hard due to eachothers other committments to make sure the work was consistent,.

What were the negatives in a group?
-Some members attendance wasnt full for that week, made it difficult to work together. Felt quite rushed when it came to finalising the final outcome ready for print. And also felt that some members were to quick to shoot down other peoples ideas without giving them a spare thought!

What will you do differently next time ?
Work more as a group, by creating the pages togther ot even in twos or threes. Also leave more time for the tweaking of pages.

Where could you have improved your resolution?
Think the printing could have been improved by tryin to find somewhere that would be able to print A1 double sided as it made the resolution look shabby in the end having to stick two pieces of card together.

What were the strengths of your presentation?
The strengths were that as we went off on our won to do our own pages we all managed to talk about out own individual pages fluently and well, and even if one member wasnt there i would imagine we would be able to tell the audience why they did what the did due to the constant interaction with eachother. So we all knew what to talk about.
