OUGD402 If you were a.......?

Based on the ongoing investigation of your personal and profeesional identities that have formed the basis of the last three PPP workshops/tasks, respond to the following questions:

If you were a book what would your subject be and who would read you?

If I was a book it would be a book mainly full of Illustrations of adventure stories, mainly for children. However the type of childrens book would be the sort that as you get older it is remembered clearly that you have been brought up around. There was a book called 'Dudley in a Jam' by Peter Cross and Illustrations by Judy Taylor which was my Mums favourite childrens book as I was growing up and now im a bit older it is now one of my fvourite books. Therefore the type of book would be one that has sentimetal value and purpose to its viewers, and is meant for children but has a soft spot with adults of all ages. Another book which also has this same reasoning would be 'The Jolly Pocket Postman' which is book with openings and envelopes that is fun and quirky.

Whilst researching different books I came across this book by Rob Ryan who is a London based paper artist. 'Telling a charming tale about family, love and adventure, the children’s book assembles a series of Ryan’s beautiful paper artworks, which consists not only of cut-out images, but of finely crafted text as well.'

This book is minimalistic, audience is children, it has a great mixture of illustration and typography to tell its story. This creative design would be the sort of book you would remember for the rest of your life as you got older. I would hope that if i was a book I would be one that people would remember.

If you were a package what would you contain and who would open you?
I would want tto be a package that has more then one use. That can be re used time and time again. I would want to be a package that wasnt seen as junk and was binned or recycled straight away. Whatever i would contain it would have to be just as useful and important as the actual product. for example. 'To reintroduce and encourage analog film photography, Xu created the pinhole cameras as film packaging. The package include instructions and materials for assembly of the fully functional pinhole camera. '

If you were a shop what would you sell and who would buy it?
If i was a shop i would be a supermarket. Supermarkets are the most useful and essential places that everyone needs to be in. you can get so much use out of a supermarket, purely because majority of the time you can get everything you need from one.

If you were a poster what would you promote and to whom?
If i was a poster i would want to spread inspiration and happiness to its viewers, rather then sell or promote an object. I would want to change the way someone feels even if it is just for a split second. I would like to be something that is kept and hung up and enjoyed every day and even shown to others.
I came across this design when I was researching packaging and these inspirational quotes and images really enticed me. They are quirky and unique and I find that the crumple look of them makes them feel more personal because there not perfect and there not trying to be.
'Switzerland-based designer Claudia Eggimann has created a set of crumpled posters, which she describes as “the-out-of-bed-poster to go”.
These hand-painted posters bring together some great illustration, typography and packaging work—being artfully crumpled, they can be easily transported without worries of getting them creased.'

If you were a brand what would your values be and why would they be important?
Jack Wills- 'Contine to be influenced by the best of british, from our history and culture. Take pride in using the finest quality materials, techniques and design to deliver our distinctive connecton between the old and new. Optomising what is to be yuong and faboulously british. Our values reflect the way we act and what we stand for as a brand. British inspired by its history and tradition, blending old and new to create something thats distinctivly ours. Creativity and the desire to be leading edge drives us.'  As a designer myself this would be the perfect brand to follow purely because I am proud of where i come from but also using that as inspiration to create designs that are influence by history aswell.

If you were an exhibition what  would you show and where would you show it?
I like the idea of re using things, that nothing should be wasted or not have a purpose, therefore I would be a pop up art exhibition, showing various arts, ranging from not only self confessed artists and designers but also people who do it as a hobby. I believe that everyone should have an experience with some art and design froms therefore to have it popping up in all different places is a beneficial idea to everyone.
'Columbus, Ohio is home to ‘Rooms To Let Temporary Art Space’, an art community project that lets artists get creative with abandoned or donated houses in the inner-city area.
Using these often overlooked spaces as sites and inspiration for their artworks, the results of the project are usually unexpected and wonderful to behold.
For instance, a student collaborative project with the Columbus College of Art & Design transformed the interior of a house into a beautiful light installation.
The brainchild of artist Melissa Vogley Woods, Room To Let is preparing for an upcoming text-driven exhibition—‘Words To Let’—that will involve 10 local and international writers and artists.'

If you were a leaflet what information would you contain and who would read it?
If I were a leaflet i would want to be an informative leaflet, one in which would enlighten its viewers in something they didnt know already, or maybe even making them aware of a certain situation or problem. The leaflet would have to have a purpose, one in which would be kept and cherished and valued. Rather then been seen as junk. I would want everyone to be able to read the leaflet and not have it being restricted. It would be understood by children with vivid imagery and enough text to inform an older age of people.

If you were a sign what would you show, to whom and where ?
If I were a sign I would be a wayfinding sign. They are the most useful signage systems. useful to all audiences because of there simplicity. They are used daily and frequently. The signage would be mainly for adults, but still be apealing to many audiences.

If you were an App what would you do and who would use you?
Instagram. I think instagram is the best way to savour precious moments, and share them with friends and family instantly, but also to people who you dont know. In that way you can spread a message and show awareness to many people around the world instantly. I would want to be an app that did this, that would maybe make someones day by looking at a photo. Anyone with a smart phone would be able to use this.

If you were a blog, what would you be about and who would follow you?
If i was to be a blog it would be like DesignTaxi blog. There tagline is driving you to bright ideas. I have found so many incredible designs on this blog, it gets updated regulary with anything thats creative. It always inspires me in some way and open my eyes up to other types of design specialisms. I would want to inspire people in all kinds of fields of design and too be able to show this to many audiences young or old.

If you were an event, what would it be and how would you promote it?
If i was to be an event i would be a festival. It would have live music from a whole range of artists varying to all different types of music genres. It would have a great big range of food stalls that people could enjoy food from different counrtys and cultures. It would be a festival about experiencing new things aswell. As i love to experience new things and always try something at least once this would be the perfect place for people to enjoy. I would promote it all over social networking sites, adverts on tv, on billboards, posters, leaflets and word of mouth.

The above images are from light festivals. I think these are spectacular images, although iv never been to one before i deffinatley would like to enjoy one of these and be inspired.

OUGD402

Below are designs that i have come accross on blogs that i have found particularly interesting.

As i have a particular interest in shoes, and had just purchased two pairs of trainers, I was looking more at the box it came in then the actual shoe. And i was thinking to myself why do shoes come in boxes, I mean clothes dont come in boxes so why do shoes. What is the importance of a shoebox. I was also wondering why there werent some incredible designs for shoe boxes that many designers havent used this as there advantage, because on a personal level iv never been blown away by a shoe box, but i have thought that a carrier bag has been nicely designed. Just a couple of days later i came accross this shoe box design for wellies. Again i still question the need for a box for shoes but i thought this was ingenious and imediatly it made me smile to myself. I thought it was really clever and very well designed. Credit due to the designer. Very nice. (Clever thing about it aswell you dont even need to use a Plastic carrier bag because there is a cut out section for your hand)
Fisherman rubber boots with a brilliant packaging from Australian art director Igor Mitin.

OUGD402 Ads

In this session we presented our ads to our partners.

This was the collection of Ads made for me. The Top Left was made by Grace and the one below was made by Roxie.
These threee are a collection made for Grace, the top one was made by Roxie, the bottom left was made by Grace, and then mine to the right
And these were Roxies designs Top left made by me, below left made by Roxie and the design on the right was made by Grace.

OUGD402 Personality Study Task

How important is it for your personality to be shown within yout practise?
Pros:
-Gives you a clear indication of what they are like before you meet them
-Makes the design more interesting
-Personal seems more reliable rather then overly corporal
-Shows that they are/will be passionate about what they are doing
-More Approachable
Signatue
Shared Values
-Who you are, not what you are
-Suitability, Can you work in a studio with other people
Con:
-Suitability-Client might want something serious, less likely to go to a designer with a humorous tone of voice
-Hard to find a balance between proffessional and too cheesy
-Depending on what tupe of personality you have. Could invent one that isnt actually you.
-Not being taken seriously. Too feminin
-Narrow field of vision if its all about you
-Heart on your sleeve
-Coming accross confident not arrogant..
What makes you you?
What makes you you as a designer?
"If your a dick, be a dick"- Craig Oldham

5 Statements that clearly state me as an individul which are not to do with design or creative practice. Backed up with images.

Modeling
Over the Years I have done modeling as a hobby. Its never been anything I have considered to do proffesionally or to do as a job, its more, purely because I beleive I have a bigger purpose in life then to stand and pose infront of a camera. I believe as a person however  it has developed my confidence to hold my head up high and believe in myself, and also be happy with the way I am. This confidence wouldnt be there if it wasnt for an old tutor of mine, who is also a Knitware designer to push me into these things knowing full well she believes in me, as I model a lot in here garments. Below is an image of me on the front cover of the Yorkshire Post Magazine.

Music
Music is very important to me, dependant on my mood I will listen to anything and its normally the mood I am in that will determine the genre. I couldnt really say what my favourite music is, because i have so many favourite songs its hard to choose. Music motivates me to do things, but it is also a distraction. I love youtube and the ability to change to any song that you can think off. I wont even walk 2 minutes to the shop without my Ipod. Currently I have purchased tickets for Wireless Festival in London and Parklife Weekender in Manchester.

Part Time Work
I have been working in various places since i was 14 years old. My first job was being a cleaner, then a shop assistent, then a carer in a Nursing Home, and Currently working in a Bar for the past 2 years. From working at such a young age, has given me independence, time management and made me appreciate the value of money. I believe that if its handed to you on a plate then it has no value what so ever. Which is why i believe in working hard, you reap the rewards so much more and you respect your money. It also helps the addiction I have with buying new shoes. It has also given me chance to meet so many different individuals from all sorts of walks of life, which is also very interesting and its a chance that some people wont have had yet.
Below is an image of where i currently work here in Leeds.

'Never take anything for Granted' Is a saying that i live by. Ive had to learn the hard way to appreciate what you have, because you dont up until its gone. I think it is important to have this believe and im lucky to have learnt this lesson from such a a young age. Everyone has sad/bad days but you have to tell yourself that everything happens for a reason and think about the good things you have in life.
Below is a Photo of my dog, he has been in my life since i was 4 years old, I strongly believe that he is a part of my family and it wasnt up until he became poorly and the vets asked us about putting him down, was a point where this believe came into action once again, because it is a family member which I may not have appreciated as much as i did up until that point. Luckily he is a lot better now.

Charity
I believe that the smallest donation can make a massive difference to someones life. When i was 9 years old I lost my best friend to cancer. Last year i went to a charity ball in memory of her which raised near to 12 grand in that one night for candlelighters, which is why i hold a massive respect for charities and people who support these charities that are close to there heart.

5 Statements that you want to say about yourself. Skills and Ethics. This is what I want to be as a practitioner. Images have to be supported with Graphic Design. Represent your ambitions.

Whilst being at College, so far we have Learnt a lot of basics of adobe softwares, along with design principles of Typography etc and mail shots along with other various things. However one thing i would love to learn is website design. I already have an interest of corporate branding, and as a designer who likes minimalist stlyes that a clean and corporate but still carry them selves to be a good design would be great. To carry this through to create proffesional websites would be beneficial to me as a designer.

Candy Black Design Studios

I like Hand drawn Illustrations, i believe that even though in this day an age everything is heavily designed digitally and coming from an Art and Design background i must not forget about the skills i have gained from the past 3 years. I also believe that when something is hand drawn it oozes with emotion and feeling. This is what i strive for when designing because at the end of the day what is the point of something if it doesnt make you feel anything.

Soga Kayoko

I Love to look at minimalist designs, but i always struggle to find a happy medium from looking too minimalist and managing to get the point accross, as a designer whos main aim and importance is to communicate a message this is something i need to learn how to do, to be successful.

 Advertising Studio H-57
Matteo Civaschi & Gianmarco Milesi

Tone of voice has to be a massive part of Communicating a message, and admittedly i struggle with this as Im not that witty, im the type of person who comes out with one liners that are hilairious but every other time im not that funny. You have to catch me on a good day. Therefore this is something that I need to work on, to find different types of Tone of voice to portray in my work.
'Corporate Identity by Zurich based graphic design studio Hegi-Weidmann for the Independent Art Book Fair “I Never Read“.
The project includes logotype, screenprinted posters and plastic bags and flyers.'

My ultimate aim is to be able to challenge any brief without the fear of not being good enough. In time I think I will gain confidence in this aspect and being able to be as open minded and creative as I possibly can be without restrictions. I often feel as if i dont think out of the box, that im not creativly minded as id want to be. Hopefully in time and as my knowledge grows in different fields ill be able to produce work that im proud of,
